VINCENNES, INDIANA – Thursday, February 5 – Amazon today announced plans to expand its operational investments in Indiana with a new 104,000-square-foot delivery station in Vincennes—bringing fast delivery to Knox County and the surrounding areas.

Delivery stations power the last mile of Amazon’s order process and help speed up deliveries. Packages are shipped to a delivery station from neighboring Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers, loaded into delivery vehicles, and delivered to customers. An average of 170 jobs are created at rural delivery stations, plus many more driving opportunities through the Delivery Service Partner (DSP) and Amazon Flex programs.

Amazon’s frontline employees in customer fulfillment and transportation earn an average hourly base wage of more than $23, with total compensation exceeding $30 an hour when including benefits. Launch plans for this delivery station—particularly those around when operations will start and hiring—are in the very early stages, with construction scheduled to start in the coming weeks.

Investing in Indiana and America’s Heartland
Since 2010, Amazon has created more than 24,500 full- and part-time jobs in Indiana and invested more than $31.1 billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation to employees. These investments have contributed an additional $29.9 billion to Indiana’s economy and have helped create more than 27,500 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires—from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services.
Amazon has invested more than $280 billion in over 1,000 small towns and rural areas across the U.S. since 2010, with two out of five jobs added in the last five years created in communities with populations less than 50,000. The company is investing $4 billion to expand its rural delivery network by the end of 2026, bringing even faster delivery to customers in less densely populated areas.
Supporting Small Businesses
More than 60% of sales in Amazon’s store come from independent sellers—most of which are small and medium-sized businesses. Over 65% of U.S. independent sellers employ at least one person within 50 miles of their primary business location, strengthening local economies and creating opportunity. Independent sellers in rural areas and small towns have grown their sales by more than 30% year over year, and in 2024, these sellers employed over 2 million people across the U.S. to support their Amazon-related operations. Independent sellers in Indiana sold over 36 million items, averaging $215,000 in sales per seller.
