Investment Expands Rural Delivery Network and Creates Jobs in Knox County as Amazon’s Operational Footprint Across Indiana Continues to Grow
VINCENNES, INDIANA – October 2, 2026 – Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) launched operations at its new 104,000-square-foot delivery station in Vincennes, bringing faster delivery speeds and quality jobs to Knox County and the surrounding communities. The facility is now operational and actively delivering packages to customers across the region.
“This opening is an important milestone for Knox County. For our residents, it means additional employment opportunities and a new investment in our community’s future. We appreciate Amazon’s commitment to Knox County, and the cooperation among local partners that helped bring this project to life,” said TJ Brink, President – Knox County Commissioners.
“Amazon’s investment in Vincennes, and Knox County, is a strong vote of confidence in our workforce, location, and potential for growth. With the delivery station now operational, that investment is creating new opportunities close to home and strengthening our role in the regional economy,” said Chris Pfaff, CEO – Knox County Indiana Economic Development
How It Works
Delivery stations power the last mile of Amazon’s order process and help speed up deliveries for customers. Packages are shipped to the Vincennes station from neighboring Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers, loaded into delivery vehicles, and delivered directly to customers’ doorsteps. The facility has created approximately 170 jobs, with additional driving opportunities available through the Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program and Amazon Flex.
DSP owners are independent small business operators who hire locally, manage their own teams, and make their own business decisions – while leveraging Amazon’s logistics infrastructure and technology. Since 2018, Amazon has invested $18.6 billion in the DSP program, helping DSP owners raise driver pay by an average of 16% over the past three years to a national average of nearly $24 per hour.
“We’re proud to officially open our doors in Vincennes and begin delivering to Knox County and the surrounding communities,” said Kyle DeGiulio, Senior Regional Manager of Economic Development for Amazon. “This delivery station is more than faster deliveries – it’s about creating quality jobs with competitive pay and benefits, supporting local businesses through our logistics network, and making a long-term commitment to rural Indiana. As Amazon’s operational footprint across the state continues to grow, Vincennes is a great example of how we’re investing in communities that are often overlooked by large-scale infrastructure projects.”
Competitive Pay and Benefits
Amazon’s frontline employees in customer fulfillment and transportation earn an average starting hourly base wage of nearly $24, with total compensation exceeding $32 an hour when including benefits. The company’s comprehensive benefits package includes:
- Health, vision, and dental insurance on day one for most employees
- Free mental health benefits for employees and their households
- 401(k) with 50% company match
- Up to 20 weeks of fully paid leave for new parents
- Flexible time-off options that increase with tenure
- Career Choice, which pre-pays 100% of tuition at more than 300 educational partner institutions across the U.S.
- Free Prime membership and discounts on eligible Amazon merchandise
Investing in Indiana and America’s Heartland
Since 2010, Amazon has created more than 27,000 full- and part-time jobs in Indiana and invested more than $40 billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation to employees. These investments have contributed an additional $35 billion to Indiana’s economy and have helped create more than 40,000 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires—from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services.
Amazon’s growth is spread across communities of all sizes across the country, not just in big cities—bringing even faster delivery to customers in less densely populated areas. Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $280 billion in over 1,000 small towns and rural areas across the U.S., with two out of five jobs added in the last five years created in communities with populations less than 50,000. The company is investing $4 billion to expand its rural delivery network’s footprint to over 200 delivery stations by the end of 2026—creating 100,000+ new jobs and driver opportunities through a wide range of full-time, part-time, and flexible positions in its buildings and on the roads.
Supporting Small Businesses
More than 60% of sales in Amazon’s store come from independent sellers—most of which are small and medium-sized businesses. Over 65% of U.S. independent sellers employ at least one person within 50 miles of their primary business location, strengthening local economies and creating opportunity. Independent sellers in rural areas and small towns have grown their sales by more than 30% year over year, and in 2024, these sellers employed over 2 million people across the U.S. to support their Amazon-related operations. Independent sellers in Indiana sold over 36 million items, averaging $215,000 in sales per seller.
About Amazon
Over the last decade, Amazon has created more jobs in the U.S. than any other company. In 2024, Amazon’s investments supported 2 million jobs—directly employing more than 1 million people across the country and indirectly supporting more than 1 million additional jobs in fields like construction, retail, healthcare, hospitality, and professional services.
