VINCENNES, Ind. (January 10, 2024) – The Knox Life Community Improvement Team (CIT) announced today the launch of its “Community Investment Initiative,” offering grants to eligible organizations and groups within Knox County, Indiana. This initiative aims to support projects that enhance the quality of life, increase community capacity, foster relationships among local organizations, and build collective efforts for improvement.

Who Can Apply?

Eligible grantees include non-profit organizations, community groups, and non-governmental organizations operating within Knox County. Individuals and incorporated groups may apply by partnering with an eligible host organization willing to sponsor the project, and act as the project fiduciary. Applicants must meet specific criteria, including demonstrating the composition of multiple individuals residing and/or working in Knox County, securing wider organizational support, presenting a project budget, and committing to reporting back upon project completion.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to consult with Knox County Indiana Economic Development (KCIED) staff to ensure funding availability and identify key considerations during the application process.

Project Criteria

Projects must be geographically defined within Knox County and contribute to an improved quality of place. The involvement and participation of residents, community members, and volunteers in the planning and execution process are essential. Priority will be given to applications demonstrating substantial cash donations, volunteer labor, or other forms of in-kind support. Capital projects are eligible for this grant.

Funding Requests

Applicants may request support up to 50% of the total project cost, or $2500, whichever is less. Matching financial and/or other forms of support appropriate to the project’s needs required. This one-time grant is not intended for recurring financial support. Funds will be issued on a reimbursement basis, with receipts required before payment.

Applications are accepted throughout the year. Complete application packets, including a cover page, responses to specific questions, attachments showing donations and project budgets, design attachments, and a completed Declaration Page, should be submitted by email to: info@knoxcountyindiana.com, or by mail/hand delivery to KCIED, Attn: Knox Life CIT, P.O. Selection Process

A selection subcommittee, comprising KCIED staff and members of Knox Life CIT, will review and evaluate grant requests. The subcommittee aims to begin reviewing applications within one month of submission, with notifications typically issued within six weeks. Funding is limited to the amount budgeted annually by the KCIED Board of Directors, with priority given to organizations that haven’t received funding in the prior twelve months.
