(Vincennes, IN) The Knox Broadband Task Force is pleased to share that Echo Wireless, a locally based internet service provider (ISP), has been awarded $2.4 million from the state’s Next Level Connections Broadband Grant Program. The funding will support expanded broadband infrastructure in the northeastern region of Knox County.
“Indiana’s investment in Knox County comes at a critical moment when residents need affordable and reliable internet service,” said Tim Trotter, owner of Echo Wireless. “Our rural residents and farm businesses need and deserve high-speed internet coverage, and this grant will assist in providing that.”
The Knox Broadband Task Force conducted a survey in 2021 to gauge broadband access, identify demand, and test internet speeds throughout the country. The results 0f the survey were used to demonstrate the ongoing need for broadband service to outlying portions of the county. Additional internet speed tests will be encouraged by the Task Force to further identify gaps in service.
“The information provided more accurate and specific data, which is important when applying for additional funding from federal and state broadband programs,” said Drew Garretson, co-chair of the Task Force.
In addition to Indiana’s Next Level Connections Program, other internet providers, such as RTC Communications, Nextlink Internet, and Watch Communications are looking toward Knox County for potential investments.
